Message from Tuan Haji Bujang Tun Ahmad Zaidi
Chairmen, Able Automobile Snd. Bhd.

Most car enthusiasts know about Mitsuoka of Japan, which is well known for its hand-made classic cars that not only look unique but also have high quality finishes as well. Its founder and current President, Mr.Susumu Mitsuoka, an avid enthusiast of classic and antique cars, formed the company in February 1968.

Mitsuoka was the 10th car manufacturer granted a manufacturer’s licence by the Ministry of Transport, Japan. The manufacturing plant is situated in the prefecture of Toyama in the Fujiyama District of Japan. It employs some 200 technical staff who themselves are car enthusiasts, and are constantly involved in the research, development and manufacture of Mitsuoka cars.

Our former Prime Minister, Dato Seri Dr.Mahathir Mohamed, visited the Mitsuoka plant in July 1997, while he was on an official visit to Japan, and was very impressed by their manufacturing skills. Mitsuoka is well known for producing hand-made cars of their own classic designs. The Classic Type F produced in November 1996 was awarded the "Good Design Award" in Japan in the same year, and this is a clear indication of the product’s high quality.

Mitsuoka cars were introduced into the Malaysian market through our company, Able Automobile Sdn Bhd. While on a tour of Japan during the mid-nineties, I was so impressed by the classical look of a homemade 2 + 2 convertible I saw on the road, that I decided to trace the origin of the car. After much effort, I was informed that the car was the "Le Seyde" produced by Mitsuoka from Toyama, Japan.

I firmly believe in the intrinsic value of classic cars, and tried my best to persuade the Mitsuoka management to set up a joint-venture in Malaysia. After much discussion, in 1997 Mitsuoka granted our company the rights to be the first overseas distributor outside Japan.

Able Automobile, during a soft launch held earlier, introduced 10 models of Mitsuoka into the local market. These were the 1.3-litre 4-cylinders View † sedan, the 2-litre 4-cylinder Ryoga sedan, the award-winning Classic type F, the Galue Limousine, and the Le Seyde 2+2 convertible to a long-body limousine, with prices ranging from RM140,000 to RM 200,000.

Every Mitsuoka is unique in the sense that it is all hand-made, with classic designs most sought after by car collectors. Other than that, the engines and chassis are from the well-proven Nissan technologies. The engines, with a maximum capacity of 2000cc, are powerful and reliable.

Of all the models, the Galue and Ryoga have received overwhelming response from Malaysian car enthusiasts. Delivery of the vehicles is not immediate, especially the Le Seyde, as it has a limited production of only 500 units.

The factory in Japan guarantees all Mitsuoka's parts. Customers are assured of the best service possible when they bring in their Mitsuoka vehicles for service or repair at our service centres. We are in the process of expanding our sales and service network to more locations throughout the country so as to enable more enthusiasts to experience the Mitsuoka sensation and to provide better service to our existing customers as well.

The flagship showroom, which also serves as their Head Office, costs RM4 million and has 15,000sq ft of space. Well designed and incorporating modern architectural elements, it is equipped with the latest facilities. In addition to housing the entire range of Mitsuoka cars, it is also a Mitsuoka Malaysia Information Centre. Meanwhile, the RM 1.8 million Jalan 222 showroom with about 30,000 sq ft of space, also features a modern design and is equipped with the latest facilities as well. It also serves as a Sales and Service Centre.

Able Automobile’s sales have been quite encouraging, leading to them aggressively opening up a network of Service Centres nationwide to support the after sales obligations. This is seen as an important branding exercise in view of Able Automobile’s long term commitment locally. At the same time, this serves to emphasise and uphold the Mitsuoka image as well.

Mitsuoka History
Our history as a coach builder goes back to 1982 when the "BUBU shuttle 50" with 50cc engine was launched. This model was designed especially for disabled persons. This model is a starting point of Mitsuoka as a coach builder. After that Mitsuoka released replica models. In 1987, "BUBU classic SSK" was launched.

In 1989 "BUBU 356 Speedster", in 1990 "Le-Seyde", in 1991 "Dore" was released.
Among others, "Le-Seyde" received special attention from people. It was sold out in only 4 days for 500 units of limited production.
The "Viewt" was released in 1993, which was reminiscent of famous Jaguar Mark II. This year it achieved a remarkable sale record of 1.000 units. We established dealer network for easy buying at anywhere in Japan

1994 Mitsuoka "Zero1" was released . Mitsuoka got type approval for this model and was recognized as the 10th Japanese passenger car manufacturer. It was sensationally announced through mass media. This model is the starting point of spirit of challenge and at the same time it still gives us the huge energy to develop various models. At this stage still we were a chassis manufacturer and just started.

After that, "Galue", "Zero 1 Type F" and "Rei" were launched in 1996, and "Ryoga" in 1998. We could make up the base of our current lineup with these models. We started to challenge to the 50cc engine car again. Our "Micro Car" and "Kit Car" were in the news and we could propose our concept. That is vehicles are not only for driving but also for the pleasure of making. In addition to this, we launched a Battery operated Micro Car for one passenger.

In 2000 we became the exclusive sole distributor of the famous London Taxi "TX-I" from England and were happy to start to sell such venerable car. This year the "Le-Seyde" was relaunched in 10 years. In 2001 we joined the 35th Tokyo Motor Show for the first time. We disclosed fully original model "Orochi" there which came out from our development concept. That is to make a super car which cannot be made by anyone except us who are very much creative and with full dream.

We could show our longing for super car from a childhood in a tangible way. By this, also we could evoke the memories of heartthrob then. Making up a prototype of "Orochi" and showing it at the Tokyo Motor Show could change our dream into self-confidence. We are on the way to bigger dream or new challenge.
